Overview
Laboratory Supervisor - Blood Bank at Methodist Healthcare System. This role supports the day-to-day operations of the Blood Bank section, overseeing personnel, quality control, quality assurance and proficiency testing programs, and laboratory methodologies, in alignment with facility goals. Responsibilities
Assist the Manager with daily operations of the section/department, including personnel management, training, performance evaluations, and problem resolution. Independently perform specimen processing and testing to include moderate and high complexity testing as appropriate, and complete competency checklists. Ensure compliance with accrediting agencies; apply CQI principles; develop, implement and evaluate quality assurance programs; provide corrective actions and documentation. Develop and evaluate laboratory methodologies, procedures and techniques in the clinical specialty. Serve as a resource to customers inside and outside the department on testing methods, laboratory operations, safety and training; act as laboratory liaison in the absence of other management personnel. Oversee ordering, care, maintenance and utilization of department equipment, supplies and inventories. Manage special projects, coordinate resources, set timelines and report progress to the Manager. Develop and implement orientation, competency and training programs; validate coworker competencies. Participate in Leadership Skills development and apply new knowledge on the job. Qualifications
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics: Education: See options below for Technical Supervisor requirements (one of the following): High school diploma or equivalent with official military medical laboratory procedures course and prior Medical Laboratory Specialist (or branch-specific) background. 60 semester hours from an accredited institution, including either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses with chemistry/biology composition and laboratory training in high complexity testing. Associate Degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution. Bachelor Degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution. Employee training and competencies as defined by service line and department needs (if applicable). Preferred: Supervisory experience. Minimum Licenses/Certifications Required:
One of the following certifications is required: MT(ASCP), MLS(ASCP), MT(AMT), MT(AAB), MLT(AAB) or other listed equivalents. Certification is waived for those with 15+ years of lab experience (per CLIA 1988).
