ANMC Laboratory Supervisor - Clinical (Transfusion) - DOE

Under general supervision, oversees and manages the staff and technical services of the clinical laboratory at the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC); develops, implements and monitors laboratory processes and procedures to ensure accurate and efficient laboratory testing and analysis. Responsibilities

Monitors, assesses, reviews and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of the ANMC laboratory. Plans and formulates program goals, objectives and functions. Writes standard operating procedures and prepares reports and statistical summaries. Participates in efforts to improve the operation and efficiency of the laboratory. Investigates and resolves patient and employee incidents and discrepancies in laboratory analysis. Investigates recall notices, manufacturer updates and software upgrades. Manages and schedules technical staff. Develops goals and priorities, and assigns tasks and projects. Develops staff skills and training plans. Counsels, trains and coaches assigned staff. Implements corrective actions and conducts performance evaluations. Provides leadership, direction and guidance in clinical laboratory testing. Ensures timely, accurate and efficient completion and approval of laboratory and administrative paperwork. Maintains record keeping systems in compliance with established procedures. Designs forms and documents to be used as templates and tools for tracking records in the laboratory. Monitors and tracks laboratory budget. Maintains inventory to assure adequate supplies. Performs complex clinical analysis. Evaluates and processes specimens received for analysis to determine the suitability of the specimen to ensure proper physiologic state is maintained. Reviews, evaluates and verifies test results. Identifies discrepancies and reanalyzes specimens as necessary. Performs maintenance and repairs on laboratory instruments. Designs and implements maintenance schedules. Represents laboratory in divisional and organization-wide planning and quality improvement committees and initiatives. Advises hospital staff on clinical laboratory specimen collection techniques. Performs other duties as assigned. Other Information

Knowledge of clinical processes and medical terminology. Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, hospital and regulatory committee rules and regulations. Knowledge of privacy laws and regulations. Skill in effectively managing and leading staff, and delegating tasks and authority. Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Skill in operating laboratory equipment. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees. Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications. Minimum Education Qualification Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or related field. Progressively responsible professional/exempt work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education. Minimum Experience Qualification Non-supervisory – Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience. AND Supervisory - One (1) year involving employee supervision. Minimum Certification Qualification Clinical Lab Supervisor: Medical Technologist (ASCP) OR Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) OR equivalent certification (as determined by a national credential certification agency).
