PRN Ultrasound Technologist

LCMC Health . Day to Day / Responsibilities
Performs complex technical aspects of Diagnostic Ultrasound and produces images of internal organs with quality and proficiency. Observes and monitors patient vital signs. Monitors medical equipment during radiographic procedures. Reviews physician orders with the Radiologist to ensure proper examination and diagnostic results. Demonstrates a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS. Provides clinical services according to Radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions. Administers sound patient care practices to ensure patient safety. Communicates effectively with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent and to ease anxiety. Explains procedures to patients/families and answers questions to assure cooperation. Maintains equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition; checks suite and equipment daily for hazards; troubleshoots malfunctions; maintains supply levels; cleans and disinfects equipment. Maintains proper sterile technique and adheres to hospital policies on isolation and protective practices. Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient operations: records requisitions accurately, performs routine clerical duties, and verifies data in PACS/RIS. Education, Licenses, and Certifications
Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or equivalent (including training from United States Armed Forces). Required: Basic Life Support - Health Care Provider (American Heart Association). Required: ARRT, ARDMS, SDMS, or CCI Registered. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of medical laboratory testing techniques and standard phlebotomy practices; ability to perform routine tests and analysis; ability to document and maintain patient records; ability to follow clinical protocols and communicate effectively. Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work includes heavy physical requirements and various lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, bending, twisting, and occasional climbing. Includes continuous keyboard use and verbal communication.
