Responsibilities Position Overview: The Inpatient Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner (NP) will play a key role in delivering care to the adult inpatient oncology and hematology patient population at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Reporting to the Cancer Institute Administrator, the NP will collaborate closely with a team of oncology physicians and advanced practice providers to provide comprehensive care to patients from initial diagnosis through treatment, management of complications, and palliative care. This position primarily focuses on inpatient oncology and hematology care, with potential opportunities for rotating between inpatient and outpatient settings for candidates with relevant certifications (Family Nurse Practitioner and/or Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner). The NP will be involved in all aspects of cancer care, including patient assessment, treatment planning, and care coordination. Key Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive assessments for adult inpatient oncology and hematology patients, including history and physical exams, diagnostic study orders and interpretation, and formulation of treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians.

Prescribe treatments, medications, and therapies according to protocols and in collaboration with oncologists.

Work with interdisciplinary team members to ensure holistic patient care.

Manage complications and acute medical issues related to cancer treatment, including toxicities, infections, and palliative needs.

Provide palliative care, symptom management, and end-of-life care coordination as appropriate.

Educate patients and families about treatments, side effects, self-management, and advance care planning.

Consult with specialty physicians regarding patient condition changes and diagnostic results.

Maintain accurate medical records, documenting assessments, treatment plans, and follow-up care.

Qualifications Masters or Doctorate in Nursing with certification as a Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care, Family, or Adult/Geriatric). Current Nurse Practitioner licensure in Arizona. Hematology/oncology experience as a NP or nurse. Preferred: OCN or AOCNP certification preferred but not required. Skills and Competencies: Strong knowledge of hematologic and oncologic conditions. Ability to assess, diagnose, and develop treatment plans collaboratively. Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and team members. Proficiency in interpreting diagnostic studies and managing complex conditions. Compassionate approach to palliative and end-of-life care. Ability to work independently and in team settings in a fast-paced environment.
