Role Overview

The Sr. Mgr, Packaging Design manages a team of primarily experienced professionals, establishes and executes short to mid-term operational plans, and solves problems with moderate to significant impact on performance. The manager influences others outside their job area and collaborates with division management, sales teams, and corporate resources on innovation and differentiation strategies.

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock

Ensure packaging design work aligns with commercial priorities, sustainability goals, and customer performance expectations

Monetize and quantify impact through redesign

Provide subject matter expertise for our design excellence program

Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Innovation teams on customer-facing design projects and strategic prospecting

Oversee structural packaging design for performance, automation compatibility, and manufacturability

Translate technical solutions into customer-centric value propositions and support value-selling initiatives

Lead a design team across multiple locations, manage department budget, and set goals and track results for sales growth

What You Need To Succeed

10+ years of experience in corrugated or packaging design, with a track record of design team leadership

Deep technical expertise in structural design (ArtiosCAD, parametric design) and strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite

Technical expertise with packaging performance standards (BCT, ECT, compression, etc.) and plant converting processes

Strong facilitation and storytelling skills to communicate packaging value internally and externally

Experience leading cross-site or regional teams and scaling best practices

Proven ability to influence commercial, technical, and operations teams

Highly collaborative mindset with the ability to create alignment in a matrixed organization

Excellent organization and time management with strong business acumen

The salary range for this position is $138,375.00 - $230,625.00, depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and a number of programs that provide for both paid and unpaid time away from work. Your actual pay will be based on your work location and other factors, such as your skills, experience, and education.
