Optical Coating Manufacturing Engineer II

— Optical Gaging Products (OGP) Optical Coating Manufacturing Engineer II provides hands-on labor and support to the Optics Manufacturing group for the assembly, testing, and documentation of optical components and subassemblies. Core tasks include building products, documentation, supporting inspection using test equipment, and transitioning new products from engineering to production. This role requires at least two years of experience in PVD thin film coating or high vacuum systems. Responsibilities

Build new and enhanced optical subsystems as required by the design. Design evaluations of optical systems to ensure conformance to specifications. Provide troubleshooting and root cause analysis of new and existing optical systems to ensure satisfaction of specifications. Partner with Optics Manufacturing to address assembly and manufacturability that maximizes productivity while minimizing error and performance compromises. Assist in production of thin film optical coatings. Assist in troubleshooting and maintenance of optical coating equipment. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Optics or related field or associate’s degree in Optical Technology with 5+ years of related experience. Functional experience in optical assembly and metrology. Experience in troubleshooting complex machine systems comprised of electrical, mechanical, optical, and software subsystems to the component level. Ability to read, understand, tolerance, and model new and existing lens designs. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Skilled in the use of optical assembly and alignment equipment such as interferometers, centering equipment, spectrometers, and light intensity measurement instrumentation. Self-motivated and productive in a cross-functional and cross-disciplined team environment. Strong written and verbal skills, particularly in the presentation of technical processes and data. Ability to maintain focus and productivity in a fast-paced development cycle with evolving designs. Experience using lens design software (OSLO, Zemax, or equivalent). Experience with PVD thin film coating or high vacuum systems. Physical and Environmental Requirements

Visual acuity to operate equipment and read technical information. Ability to sit and work in well-lit office spaces for extended periods, using computer and other office equipment. Ability to walk and stand for extended periods when visiting production areas. Capability to lift and carry equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds. What We Offer

Location: Rochester, NY (On-Site) Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm Compensation: $70,000–$90,000 based on experience.
