Job Description

Design and develop controls systems to automate processes and machines. Perform a wide variety of control design and application duties including, implementation of control algorithms in software, development of software data file structures, terminal display formatting, and software for data transmission with detailed emphasis on programming using PLC languages, motion control logic, and other higher-level languages. Develop, implement, and employ debugging and maintenance software in the development and maintenance of company products and related equipment. Structure machine parts for engineering projects and design machine drawings for engineering projects including schematics, panel layouts and other engineering drawings. Key Responsibilities/Complexities

Design and develop complex electrical engineering and functional controls system architecture and specifications with input from sales personnel, customers, service technicians, assembly technicians. Apply ingenuity in programming, hardware/software integration and system diagnostics to support machine-based control systems. Prepare schematics, assemblies, detailed drawings and bills of material for complex projects Develop, prepare and maintain comprehensive program documentation in areas related to diagnostics, information systems, data collection and communication with other peripheral equipment. Research and stay current on latest developments concerning system architectures that could be implemented as parts of machine control systems. Act as a liaison to production assembly, service and system suppliers and furnish documentation and/or assist in the check-out, machine installation and startup of complex mechanical functionality and control system software. Interface directly with customers to identify customer expectations and specifications. Interface with suppliers to select and develop the best available technical solutions Troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions; participate on team to analyze control system malfunctions; make recommendations that will improve efficiency or quality of operations May participate in set-up and commissioning of new facilities or upgrading of existing facilities Provide guidance in the production of system operation manuals and diagnostic aids for customer and service technician use. May lead, mentor or coach less experienced team members May travel to customer sites to lead or support testing, commissioning and/or startup of industrial equipment Other duties as assigned Competencies

Must be able to competently perform all level 2 duties Comprehensive knowledge and experience with Allen Bradley Controls, Siemens, Beckhoff, B&R or other Controls Platform Comprehensive knowledge of Control & Instrumentation Theory and Application; small computer and microprocessor programming techniques (Motion Control, PLC and Visual C++ languages) Ability to read complex electrical controls schematics and other drawings Comprehensive experience with PLC controller programming Ability to work in a customer’s facility and manage that relationship Self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimum guidance Barry-Wehmiller is an equal opportunity employer.
