Marwen Emerging Teaching Artist (META) Position Summary: The META is a temporary, part‑time role that supports Marwen’s year‑round visual arts program for Chicago youth grades 6‑12. The role provides studio support, mentors teaching artists, and leads workshops under staff supervision.

Core Responsibilities

Provide studio support for two courses, assisting lead teaching artists during Spring and Summer terms.

Advocate for youth and document students’ artwork in class.

Support studio reset and maintenance during class sessions.

Participate in professional development and peer learning, including group skill building, mentorship feedback, and training on creative youth development.

Lead Marwen workshops for 6th‑12th grade students under staff supervision.

Engage in post‑term reflection.

Ideal Candidate

1‑3 years teaching or directly working with youth.

Experience in an artistic practice such as painting, drawing, ceramics, fashion, digital photography, printmaking/print media, darkroom or photography.

Specific expertise in ceramics (wheel throwing), fashion (garment design and construction), sewing machine use, or darkroom photography (film processing) is a plus.

Understanding of and alignment with the principles of creative youth development.

Experience with collaborative environments, including cohorts, co‑facilitation models, and teaching teams.

Compensation Hourly pay: $23.10 per hour.

Hours per Term Spring 2026 Term: 61 hours; Summer 2026 Term: 54 hours.
