Position The Laboratory Toxicology Supervisor is responsible for leading day-to-day operations in the toxicology department, with an emphasis on safety, accuracy, and regulatory compliance. In this role, you will manage LC/MS instrumentation, oversee method validation and quality control, and provide technical guidance to the team. You will train and mentor staff, ensure timely and accurate reporting of results, and serve as the primary contact for the department in the Lab Manager’s absence. This role is both hands-on and supervisory, combining technical expertise with leadership to maintain the highest standards of clinical toxicology testing. Schedule Full-time, onsite in Draper, Utah Monday to Friday 0800 to 1630 with some flexibility Responsibilities Supervise daily operations in the toxicology department to ensure accurate and timely testing Oversee LC/MS and Mass Spectrometry instrumentation, including calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and method optimization Develop, implement, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for validations, clinical testing, and compliance Review, interpret, and release patient test results in accordance with regulatory and laboratory standards Manage Quality Control processes and documentation; investigate out-of-range QC results and implement corrective actions Monitor workload, prioritize testing, and allocate staff assignments to ensure turnaround times are met Conduct laboratory inspections, audits, and risk assessments to maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies Train, mentor, and evaluate team members; provide ongoing technical guidance and performance feedback Collaborate with other departments (Chemistry, Molecular, Client Services) to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous or toxic substances Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in workflow efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality outcomes Serve as acting leader for the toxicology team in the absence of the Lab Manager Other duties as assigned Qualifications Minimum 2 years of documented toxicology experience in a clinical laboratory setting Direct experience with LC-MS instrumentation, including sample preparation and data analysis Strong understanding of quality assurance and quality control in laboratory operations Demonstrated ability to follow and enforce regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, OSHA, etc.) Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and team collaboration Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver accurate results within required timelines Preferred Qualifications 3–5+ years of toxicology laboratory experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role Clinical toxicology experience specifically in drugs of abuse, pain management, or therapeutic drug monitoring Hands-on experience with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry Proficiency with Agilent 6460, MassHunter software, and Beckman AU 480/680 analyzers Experience validating new assays and troubleshooting complex LC/MS methods Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic reporting processes Experience with laboratory audits and regulatory inspections Ability to design and deliver training programs for technical staff Master’s degree in a related field (chemistry, toxicology, clinical laboratory science) Education Bachelor of Science or higher in chemistry, biology, clinical laboratory science, or related field Job Type Full-time Salary $95,000 – $120,000 annually, including bonus opportunities Benefits Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance Paid time off (21 days for full-time) 7 Paid Holidays 401(k): Eligible per plan terms HSA Short-term & Long-term Disability Voluntary Life Insurance AD&D Relocation/Commute Draper, UT: Relocate or have reliable commute required Start Date Ideal start date: when the right candidate is found Application Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
