As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer in the Data Center Platform Engineering Group (DPEG) Mechanical Engineering department, you will be responsible for the mechanical design, technology development, and production support for the AMD Data Center GPU products. You will lead a portion of the team to drive the mechanical design of these products at chip module, card, system-level, rack, and data center levels. You will interact with silicon design, board engineering, validation, manufacturing, AMD leaders, customers, and partners. The Person
The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will have excellent communication and planning skills, technical leadership, and strong problem-solving abilities. They should be market aware, knowledgeable about server and rack data center infrastructure, and comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment. Key Responsibilities
Lead a small but global engineering team based in Austin, Texas, focusing on mechanical development and integration of silicon devices onto boards and into products; design for server architecture (board, system, rack, data center) and cooling. Collaborate with a global team to deliver commercially viable products on time and cost-effectively. Manage work assignments, coordinate results with cross-functional teams, and build relationships with OEM/ODM customers. Focus on technology development and productization of mechanical architecture, packaging technologies, production control, and system-level technologies for AMD products. Pre-silicon work includes feature definition, package technology development, mechanical modeling, tolerance analysis, and system development; post-silicon work includes test planning, characterization, data analysis, and customer/reference system design. Influence and communicate vision across the organization; drive continuous improvement and promote new ideas in mechanical design and product definition. Qualifications and Experience
Technical Leadership Experience: 10+ years leading engineers in a large, fast-paced environment; experience mentoring junior engineers and managing multiple technically diverse programs in parallel. Technical Experience: Solid understanding of mechanical design, design for manufacture, mechanical analysis; server infrastructure design; experience developing mechanical solutions at silicon, package, and system levels for semiconductor products; data analysis and characterization; optimization of packaging for quality and cost improvements. Mechanical Modelling: Knowledge of statistical analysis, structural analysis, finite element analysis, tolerance analysis; SolidWorks and Creo CAD; Ansys a plus. Strategic Thinking: Ability to define and implement long-term strategies in a dynamic, high-tech environment with uncertainty and competition. Teamwork: Strong collaboration with internal teams, operations, vendors, and external partners; leadership by example. Academic Credentials
BS in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of experience. Advanced degree is a plus. Location
