Job Title:

R&D Controls Engineer The R&D Controls Engineer is part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing and refining products and processes for use in the automated logistics industry. The role is largely focused on programming, with involvement in electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical design. Responsibilities

Supporting the controls architecture development and programming required for new products

Researching and testing machine controls technologies to support Vanderlande products

Defining design and application rules (e.g., maximum number of nodes on a fieldbus network, PLC loading)

Creating and maintaining code libraries for standard equipment

Managing planned obsolescence of controls components related to standard equipment

Delivering quality by creating test plans, performing risk analyses, and properly testing code

Basic Qualifications / Areas of Knowledge

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science

3 years of relevant experience

Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC Platform (Siemens is a plus)

PLC languages: Ladder Logic & Structured Text (STL & FBD are a plus)

Industrial Fieldbus (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, ControlNet, DeviceNet, ASi, Modbus)

Simulation/Emulation of equipment

Electrical design and industrial machinery

SCADA/HMI

Preferred Qualifications / Areas of Knowledge

Familiarity with Parcel Logistics

Motor control theory

Source/version control

Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)

Distributed I/O

Computer networking (TCP/IP)

Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) integration

Programming (e.g., Python, C#, Java, HTML)

Predictive maintenance

Condition-based monitoring

Embedded software

IIoT v4 (Industrial Internet of Things)

Machine safety (ISO 13849)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements Office-based role located in Marietta, GA. May require occasional visits to warehouse or industrial environments. May be expected to perform hands-on assembly or troubleshooting of equipment, requiring use of hand/power tools and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work Full-Time. Standard business hours with flexibility as needed for global collaboration.

Travel Occasional travel may be required for stakeholder meetings, site visits, or global team collaboration, up to 10%, domestic and international.
