Overview HDR is seeking an Airfield Design Engineer to join its Aviation practice. HDR employee‑owners are committed to a welcoming, inclusive culture and to delivering design and plan production for general civil projects at airports, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and related civil engineering activities of varying scales.

Responsibilities

Serve as a resource for aviation‑related tasks and be recognized by clients for aviation expertise

Develop technically and interpret FAA, USACE and related guidance; propose alternative study or documentation methodologies

Prepare approaches, scopes of work, and fee estimates for small projects

Identify and support technical talent development; pursue leadership opportunities in external aviation organizations when appropriate

Apply processes and tools; develop and improve methodologies and procedures (QMP) for tasks performed

Coordinate with applicable agencies (FAA, EPA, local) and clients; develop project design reports and coordinate with stakeholders as directed

Lead analyses and design for specific components of a project; lead field reviews to ensure construction compliance with contract documents

Provide marketing support and assist with technical write‑ups of completed projects; maintain an updated resume

Maintain proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (or equivalent), AVI‑Plan, Infraworks modeling software (or similar)

Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of 3 years experience with Airfield Planning and Design

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering

Professional Engineer (PE) license

Previous experience with Airfield Planning and Design

Thorough understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D (or similar design software), AVI‑Plan and Infraworks modeling software (or similar)

Overall understanding of airfield design

Microsoft Office experience

Strong written and verbal communication skills

An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of HDR's employee‑owned culture

Compensation and Location HDR provides a comprehensive benefits package and compensation that varies by skills, experience, education, and location. Examples: New York: $93,800 - $134,000; New Jersey: $90,482 - $140,500. Primary location: United States - Pennsylvania - Philadelphia; Other locations include various U.S. locations listed by HDR.
