Title: Design Engineer - Mechatronics Location: SLC Region Target Start Date: October 2025 Type: Contract Pay Rate: $45-55/hr
Position Summary Exciting opportunity to work on cutting edge robotics systems! We are looking for a Mechatronics Engineer to design, build, and integrate electro-mechanical systems that enable autonomous operation of robotics platforms. This role requires hands-on work with mechanical components, sensors, electronics, and control software to help develop robotics solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design, prototype, and test mechanical and electromechanical subsystems (actuators, sensors, motor control, mechanical linkages).
Collaborate with software, controls, and electrical engineering teams to ensure seamless integration between hardware and control algorithms.
Select and validate sensors, control hardware, and mechanical components for robustness, efficiency, and durability in outdoor, off-road, and industrial environments.
Develop and execute test plans, perform troubleshooting, and optimize system performance (efficiency, reliability, durability).
Document component requirements, design specifications, and mechanical-electronic interface details.
Support field deployment activities, including hardware modifications and system calibration.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering field, or Computer Science
3–5+ years of experience in designing, prototyping, and integrating electromechanical systems
Strong understanding of sensors, motor control, control electronics, embedded systems
Experience with CAD tools (mechanical design), electronics design, and firmware or control software basics
Familiarity with robustness testing, environmental stress, vibration, and outdoor ruggedization
Excellent collaboration skills, ability to work with multidisciplinary teams (software, controls, electrical)
