This hybrid role is based out of our Los Angeles HQ and requires a minimum in-office presence of 2-3 days per week. What’s the Role About

We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Product Development team. You will design and deliver products to specification. The right candidate will be highly creative with a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and materials. You will work with ID, EE, and Quality to create user-focused, reliable products and manage them throughout their lifecycle. You will utilize 3D modeling and rapid prototyping to solve problems with manufacturability in mind. This is an individual contributor role that influences teams across products, quality, operations, and supply chain to drive accountability and results. Responsibilities

Create CAD models, including part and assembly drawings, BOMs, and complex surfacing. Contribute to mechanical solutions as part of a cross-functional team. Lead new technology assessments, prototype testing support, and coordinate with other functions to ensure cohesive technology integration. Work across the full product development cycle from concept to shipping product. Collaborate with Quality and Test Engineers to define and validate functional and production-line tests. Coordinate with Asia-based Supply Chain/Quality/Process engineers to ensure products are manufactured to Puffco specifications and cost targets. Lead mechanical design reviews, including tolerance analysis, FEA, DFM, tooling, assembly flow, and fixture considerations. Minimum Qualifications

BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience. 4+ years of industry experience in mechanical design and consumer product development. Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and extensive CAD experience. Portfolio of past work required, including design examples, project contributions, and launch outcomes. Understanding of the entire design process from concept to EOL. Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis, functional dimensioning, GD&T, and 3D/2D CAD. Working knowledge of material properties (plastics, silicone, metal, adhesive, glass/ceramic). Testing and analysis experience (FEA, simulation, DoE, etc.). Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques (extrusion, die cast/MIM, machining, injection molding). Excellent organizational skills and ability to track and resolve issues across multiple programs. Experience working in a shop for mock-up and prototype fabrication. Self-starter with ownership and accountability; able to work independently while driving outcomes. Collaborative and humble team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings hands-on problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications

7+ years of product design and development experience for high-volume consumer electronics. MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering. Experience with highly cosmetic products and collaboration with Industrial Design. Proven track record of integrating complex electronics into small form factors with EE collaboration. Experience working with Asian suppliers, including site visits. Track record of delivering products on schedule that meet quality, reliability, and cost targets. Experience managing products through their entire life cycle. Experience in a small, fast-paced environment and with Asia-based supply chains. Fluency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese. Compensation and Location

The compensation range for this role is $115,000 - $125,000 for candidates based in Los Angeles, CA. Individual compensation is determined based on experience and skillset. This role is eligible for an annual bonus. Perks and Benefits
