UC Davis Health is seeking a Pediatric Surgery Physician Assistant (PA) to provide independent advanced practice provider clinical expertise to patients and their families on an ongoing basis. This includes management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and specialty protocols for the department. The PA may perform non-invasive or invasive procedures and surgical procedures, including operative first assist per approved standardized procedures identified by the Medical Staff Office. Patient management decisions will be independent where appropriate and in consultation with an attending or other team members. PAs act as an expert resource for health care providers including nurses, residents, and other staff. Provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population. Applies knowledge, experience, and judgment to determine the importance of a situation, set priorities, and evaluate clinical situations. Participates in patient and staff education. Demonstrates leadership and accountability for own practices as defined by the California Physician Assistant board. Qualifications

California Licensed Physician Assistant (PA) and possession of a valid California Physician Assistant license Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hire National PA Board Certification American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification within 7 days of hire Master’s degree or PhD from an accredited Physician Assistant program, or completion of certified PA training from an accredited program Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Physician Assistant with at least one year in an ICU and at least one year in pediatric acute care Ability to work flexible hours; strong verbal and written communication; sound judgment; self-direction and organizational skills Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing as a billable provider Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Pediatric Surgery Attending physicians, the inpatient PA for Pediatric Surgery will care for pediatric trauma and general surgery service patients and their families. The service includes care in the OR, PACU, acute care floor, emergency department, PICU, and NICU. The PA orders medications and diagnostic testing, interprets laboratory values and test results, and documents care in history/physicals, daily progress notes, and discharge summaries. When needed, the PA may see ED or inpatient consults and will coordinate care with attending physicians. The PA may participate in research and quality improvement efforts within the Pediatric Surgery Department. The PA also provides education to patients, families, ICU members, and medical staff, including students, residents, and fellows. Position Information
