We seek a dedicated and highly skilled

Nighttime Intensivist

to join our Department of Medicine at Long Island Community Hospital. The nighttime intensivist will oversee and manage critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) during overnight shifts. This position ensures continuity of high-quality care for ICU patients and supports the hospital's commitment to patient safety and clinical excellence. MICU and CCU combined have 14 beds.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care:

Provide direct patient care in the ICU, including assessing, diagnosing, and managing critically ill patients.

Perform bedside procedures, including intubations, central line placements, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and arterial line placements.

Respond promptly to emergencies, including code blue, rapid response team calls, and acute clinical deterioration of patients.

Collaborate with the daytime ICU team to ensure smooth care transitions through detailed handoffs.

Supervision and Teaching:

Supervise and support residents, advanced practice providers (APPs), and medical staff working overnight.

Foster a collaborative learning environment, providing bedside teaching and guidance when appropriate.

Communication and Coordination:

Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and consultants, to provide comprehensive care.

Engage in discussions with families and patients to provide updates, explain complex clinical conditions, and address concerns with empathy.

Administrative Duties:

Ensure compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and guidelines for ICU care.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance ICU care and patient outcomes.

Quality and patient safety:

NYU Langone and LICH are metric-driven organizations. Familiarity with hospital-acquired infections, hospital-acquired conditions, CLABSI, CAUTI, HCAPCS, mortality, and other quality indicators is essential. Achieving set goals is expected.

Work Schedule

Overnight shifts, typically 7 nights per week (schedule to be determined based on department needs).

Flexibility for coverage on weekends and holidays as required.

Salary $280k-$400k

Qualifications

MD or DO degree with Board Certification/Eligibility in Critical Care Medicine.

Unrestricted medical license to practice in NY.

Proficient in critical care procedures and comfortable managing complex cases independently.

Excellent communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
