Teach courses in the Emergency Medical Care Department; develop and evaluate curricula appropriate to the different learning needs of students as well as develop student and program learning outcomes. Create a learning environment that promotes and stimulates learning for every student. Use and stay abreast of appropriate emerging teaching techniques and technologies. Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours. Serve as a member of department, division, college, and district committees. Perform other professional duties as required by contract or divisional and institutional needs. Collaborate with groups on and off campus on projects that support Emergency Medical Care. Knowledge of law, ethics, and current regulations as applied to the emergency medical field. Skills And Abilities
Successful work and teaching experience in emergency medical care, paramedic, or related fields. Commitment to and proficiency in creating curricula and methods of delivery that reflect the highest industry standards and practices. The ability to motivate students from a broad spectrum of backgrounds, including diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ communities. Assist with maintenance and organization of lab equipment to support program growth, ensure supplies are ordered, tracked, and available for instructional needs. Assist in accurate student record documentation and program accreditation/compliance reporting. Experience in computer applications and emerging technologies for emergency medical technicians. Experience or familiarity with student and program learning outcomes development and assessment for emergency medical care courses. Assist with college-wide and department activities to assess and improve student learning. Experience working with outside medical agencies and ambulatory organizations. Understanding of the role and purpose of the community college, including its mission and values. Ability to use teaching methods that emphasize cooperation, collaboration, and active student engagement; promote critical thinking and independent learning with cultural sensitivity and interdisciplinary approaches. Respect for the diverse backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff. Preferred Qualifications
Paramedic License Availability to teach a full day Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or higher with two years of professional experience OR an associate degree with six years of professional experience OR equivalent, directly related to the teaching assignment. Valid California ID/Driver's License (or ability to obtain one). Imagetrend Account as required by the County (or ability to obtain one). Valid Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-Basic) License. Completion of the NAEMSE Level 1 Instructor Course by start date. Demonstrated cultural competence and understanding of diverse backgrounds as related to equity-minded practice in and outside the classroom. Note: If you believe your degree, academic background, or professional achievements are equivalent to the stated minimum qualifications, please complete the Application for Equivalence.
