Responsibilities As our surgical services nurse at St. John's, you will prepare patients for surgical procedures and assist in the operating room to ensure they receive excellent nursing care during their most vulnerable moments. Your daily tasks will include reviewing consent forms, answering patient questions, conducting preoperative assessments, preparing equipment, and updating family members on surgery status. You will also directly assist surgeons during procedures. Success in this role requires the ability to focus while multitasking, stay calm under pressure, and exercise good judgment in emergencies. The Clinical Nurse III (CN III) in Surgical Services is an RN with advanced skills, acting as an expert in surgical nursing care and capable of guiding and mentoring other staff. The CN III ensures smooth unit operations, provides mentorship, and offers advanced consultation on complex patient care issues. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Current California RN license Current CPR certification (CT CPRBLS) Current ACLS certification (CT ACLS) Current PALS certification (CT PALS) Three to five years of circulating experience in a perioperative setting across multiple service lines. Special Skills: Ability to work within a decentralized patient care model. Proficient advanced nursing and specialty skills. Caring and compassionate attitude. Leadership ability to guide the patient care team. Skill in delegating patient care tasks appropriately. Knowledge of CQI techniques and their application in patient care. Active participation in CQI projects and team leadership. Effective organization and prioritization skills. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral, with active listening. Understanding of Change Theory and ability to apply it. Role modeling and resourcefulness for team members. Strong interpersonal skills and cross-departmental collaboration.
