Overview
Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Veterinary Technician to join our specialty department team. Our collaborative environment includes in-hospital continuing education lectures, labs, and opportunities for cross-training. OSVS is located in East Greenwich, RI, in a 35,000-square-foot facility with a busy emergency service and specialists across multiple disciplines. Signing bonus up to $2,500 is available for this position. Position Overview
Technicians perform a variety of animal-health duties to ensure exceptional patient care. The technician should be proficient in intermediate nursing duties, including patient assessment and monitoring, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, medication and fluid administration, medical calculations, and anesthesia monitoring. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of specialty medicine and the ability to remain calm during stressful situations. The technician in this role will be trained to work as a clinic tech within different departments including internal medicine, neurology, and cardiology. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Deliver exceptional, compassionate nursing care to patients utilizing a variety of technical skills including diagnostic sample collection and intravenous catheter placement Assist doctors with consultations and recheck appointments Relay information to clients under the guidance of physicians Schedule new patient consultations, rechecks, procedures, and technician outpatient appointments for the specialty departments Coordinate daily scheduled appointments, procedures, emergency transfers, and inpatient consultations for canine and feline patients Stay current in veterinary medicine trends through CE attendance Skills and Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of professional experience in a small animal clinical setting as a technician State certification to practice as a veterinary technician preferred Superior technical knowledge and skills Proficient in medical math calculations (drugs, conversions, etc.) Excellent communication skills with clients and team members Proficient time management, problem solving, ability to learn, and handle multiple tasks Enthusiastic team player with a patient and positive professional attitude Must be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds and work on feet most of the day Ability to adjust to changes in the environment and handle stress calmly Detail-oriented with the ability to anticipate patient needs Benefits and Perks (Full Time)
