Director, Brokerage Property Underwriting

Job Description Summary As the Director of Brokerage Property Underwriting for the Wholesale Brokerage Property Unit, you will lead strategy, product development, and broker relationships across the Excess & Surplus Specialty lines.
Key Responsibilities Risk Selection: identify new market opportunities and drive cross‑functional product development. Technical Underwriting: analyze exposure, develop pricing, and mentor underwriters. Broker Relations: maintain frequent broker contact, resolve conflicts, and provide underwriting recommendations. Marketing: conduct marketing visits, drive broker conversations, and coordinate in‑market receptions. Territory Management: analyze broker performance, recommend solutions, and support the book of business. Team Development: develop skills of others, provide feedback, and act as substitute in lieu of manager. Production: manage volume, efficiency, and meet premium and loss ratio goals.
Ideal Candidate Minimum 10 years of underwriting experience. Shared/Layered Property technical expertise and industry knowledge. Strong mentorship, leadership, and training skills. Experience presenting to senior level stakeholders. Relationship management experience with large wholesale brokers. Experience analyzing property portfolio and maximizing growth. Strong attention to detail and prioritization skills. Data analytics and business insights skillset related to market research. Broad range of occupancies and account sizes. Experience evaluating facultative reinsurance. Ability to collaborate across internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications Underwriting, broker, or specialty line background preferred. Excess & Surplus lines experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred; CPCU designation is a plus.
