Overview
Staff Nurse, Perioperative Services - Main Operating Room at University Hospital. The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse position for Medical Special Procedures is to be responsible for the care of pediatric and adult patients undergoing endoscopic and other gastro-intestinal related procedures during the pre-procedural, procedural and post-procedural phases. The nurse delivers care through the nursing process as reflected in SGNA’s Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice and Role Delineation Statements in a manner that is cost effective without compromising quality of care. Responsibilities
Conduct assessment, planning, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluation of the physical, psychological, and spiritual needs of endoscopic patients pre-procedurally, procedurally, and post-procedurally. Demonstrate competency to assist physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. Participate in departmental quality assessment and improvement activities; meet hospital continuing education and certification requirements; participate in student teaching activities. Uphold Patient Care Services philosophy and objectives; demonstrate knowledge of SGNA Standards and Guidelines related to clinical nursing practice, sedation and analgesia in the GI endoscopy setting, infection control and reprocessing of flexible GI endoscopes; apply AORN Age Specific Competency statements. Engage in professional growth and development. Qualifications
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or eligible for New Jersey licensure; employment contingent upon licensure. Adult Medical/Surgical/Special Procedures experience preferred; BSN preferred. BCLS certification required; PALS certification preferred. Must maintain a neat, clean, professional appearance; effective communication and teamwork with physicians and colleagues; attention to detail; self-motivation and efficient work practices.
