Schedule 7‑On/7‑Off A week, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Training: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
Primary Purpose The Reagent Lab Technologist Trainee provides services in the Reagent Production Laboratory, working under the direction of a Technologist, Workflow Coordinator, Technical Specialist, and/or Technical Supervisor. Responsibilities include routine production of cell culture, reagents, controls, kits, gels, and microbiological media; answering the telephone; equipment maintenance, performance, and documentation; and minor troubleshooting.
Essential Functions
Manufacture reagents, kits, gels, microbiological media, and mammalian cell cultures.
Recognize and report abnormal results.
Operate selected laboratory instruments and ensure proper functioning of laboratory equipment. Perform minor troubleshooting and routine maintenance under the direction of the Workflow Coordinator or Technical Supervisor. Report service issues to the Workflow Coordinator. Maintain records and documentation.
Perform new procedures with appropriate training as directed.
Assist others in area of defined competency when workload permits.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area; clean bench surfaces and equipment after each shift or after contamination/spills. Complete required documentation.
Stock and maintain reagents and supplies. Note receipt date and lot number to ensure first‑in, first‑out. Discard outdated reagents according to policy and notify Workflow Coordinator.
Comply with safety and biohazard regulations as outlined in the Laboratory Safety Manual.
Attend laboratory meetings and in‑services as required. Remain informed of all procedures and procedure changes.
Other duties as assigned.
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biological or chemical sciences. Required credits: 16 biology (including medical, clinical, or pathogenic microbiology), 16 chemistry (including quantitative analysis/analytical chemistry and clinical chemistry/biochemistry), 3 credit math, physics, or statistics.
Previous laboratory work experience is preferred.
Physical & Other Requirements
Stooping, bending, and reaching as required.
Occasional light work up to 20 pounds, frequent up to 10 pounds.
Fine motor control, vision, and PPE as per CDC and OSHA.
Compliance with all ARUP policies and procedures.
