Operating Room Radiologic Technologist
in Houston, TX 77027.
Essential Functions
Maintain a sterile field and operate radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment under physician direction.
Ensure radiographic supplies, proper ionizing factors, film, and other equipment are present, in working order, and set controls (kilovoltage, milliamperage) to prescribed specifications.
Position patients and adjust equipment to obtain the best quality X‑ray of requested body areas, evaluate image clarity, and retake images when needed.
Distribute films to medical staff, transfer images to the electronic medical record (EMR), and conduct quality control checks to assure the X‑ray unit meets laws, rules, and facility policy.
Minimize radiation to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam‑restrictive devices and patient shielding.
Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection‑control policies and protocols, and protect patient privacy rights in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
Report all accidents promptly, correct minor safety hazards, and communicate hazards identified in the workplace to peers and management.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of human anatomy, diagnostic radiographic procedures, basic chemistry, film apparatus and processing techniques, exposure factors, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform high‑quality radiology procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner.
Ability to set up and operate radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment, lift and position patients, and maintain accurate patient records and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.
Ability to respond quickly, physically, and mentally when priorities or the patient’s condition changes; maintain a calm and helpful attitude under stress.
Ability to adapt with flexibility, work independently, and maintain self‑composure under difficult situations.
Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology or an Associate’s Degree in Radiology Studies.
Licensed by the Medical State Board of Texas as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT).
Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
