R&D Staff Scientist - Microbiology (Solution Assurance) BD Diagnostic Systems

About the Role Join BD Diagnostic Systems' R&D Solution Assurance team as a Staff Scientist – Microbiology and help shape the future of clinical diagnostics. You'll contribute to the development and validation of cutting-edge microbiology and molecular diagnostic solutions, working with industry-leading platforms like BACTEC™, Kiestra™, COR™, and Phoenix™, all connected through our Synapsys™ Informatics Solution. Your work will directly impact how laboratories deliver patient care.

We're seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative scientist passionate about healthcare innovation. Key Responsibilities

Apply clinical microbiology expertise to ensure products meet real-world customer needs.

Design and execute laboratory experiments independently to support product development and validation, and provide guidance and support to other members of the team.

Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D Engineering, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, and Service teams.

Author and review technical documentation, including validation protocols.

Support troubleshooting efforts and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Stay current with advancements in clinical microbiology and related technologies.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Medical Technology, or related field.

Minimum 5-8+ years of hands-on experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory, specifically bacteriology benchwork.

Experience at a lead/supervisory level in a clinical laboratory.

Solid understanding of clinical microbiology principles and laboratory practices.

Strong laboratory skills (experimental design, data analysis, troubleshooting).

Proficiency with standard software tools (Excel, Word, databases).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proactive, team-oriented mindset with strong desire to learn and grow.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with molecular technologies and platforms.

Experience with BACTEC™, Kiestra™, COR™, Phoenix™, MAX™, and Synapsys™, and similar diagnostic platforms.

Experience with technical writing and validation documentation.

Prior experience in product testing or validation studies.

Workplace Arrangement This is a full-time, on-site position based at our Sparks, Maryland location.

Salary Range Information $113,400.00 - $186,900.00 USD Annual
