As a Radiation Therapist, you will apply ionizing radiation to patients of all ages in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist and under the general supervision of the Chief Therapist. Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver accurately the prescribed radiation therapy course with minimal supervision Verify prescription, diagnosis, chart, and patient identification Explain procedures and emergency procedures to patients; reinforce Radiation Oncologist’s advice regarding treatment reactions and care Prepare the room and equipment for patient according to prescription, immobilization devices, field size, treatment distance, and lead protection Safely transfer patient to the treatment couch, paying special care to catheters and intravenous drips Maintain visual and audible communication with the patient during treatment; monitor patient for unusual reactions and report accurate information to nursing staff and/or Radiation Oncologist Observe radiation safety measures for patient and personnel Assist in simulation and tumor localization procedures; prepare immobilization devices Assist in dosimetry procedures (prescription calculations) Obtain weekly port films and present at chart rounds for review by Radiation Oncology staff Participate in weekly QA rounds, monthly therapy meetings, and educational in-services Perform and document daily accelerator warm‑up and QA procedures; maintain treatment records as required by departmental QA and quality improvement activities Secure and maintain supplies; secure x‑ray and lab reports as needed; report erratic equipment operation to Chief Therapist, Radiation Physicist, or Medical Engineer Participate in departmental PI (Performance Improvement) activities; assist in hiring and orienting new personnel Qualifications
Education: Satisfactory completion of a 24‑month course in radiology technology and a 12‑month course in radiation therapy technology; or other educational combinations listed in the original description Experience: One year clinical training in Radiation Therapy Licensure and Certification: Current state or national license and/or board eligibility by the American Registry of Radiology Technology; maintain ARRT certification with minimum 12 hours of continuing education Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of ionizing radiation equipment operation Knowledge of human anatomy and proper patient positioning for prescribed treatment Ability to administer CPR in a medical emergency Equal Opportunity Employer Statement
