Overview Manages, coordinates, and evaluates all elements of financial, material and human resources in the provision of nursing care to assigned groups of patients in accordance with the service and missions of the institution.
Qualifications Education, Certification, and/or Licensure
Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
Specialty certification desirable.
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
Experience
Four (4) years nursing experience with at least two years management experience.
Responsibilities
Advises the Director on the hiring, retention, interviewing and recruitment of staff.
Initiates and maintains appropriate personnel records.
Assists in the development and implementation of on-going educational programs for professional and support staff including new employee orientation, in-service continuing education, and training for new equipment or systems.
Provides ongoing feedback to employees concerning job performance through goal development, peer evaluation, and performance evaluations. Counsels and disciplines employees under the direction of the Director.
Monitors personnel and current expense budgets, providing information and/or justification of variances to the Director.
Makes recommendations for preparation of the budget for the cost center to assure cost effective operations.
Ensures economical utilization of time, materials and resources through workflow and staffing pattern reviews to achieve optimal productivity and appropriate staffing and skill mix for patient care.
Communicates effectively with physicians, nurses, and other personnel to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
Promotes customer satisfaction through professional and constructive responsiveness to patient and family needs and expectations.
Serves as a resource to appropriate Quality Improvement teams.
Participates in staff meetings, in-services, and other activities to disseminate information to staff and physicians.
Monitors current expenses and human resource funds for cost effectiveness.
Spends funds in dollar amounts congruent with the department’s budget and in support of cost containment.
Maintains effective communication with Medical Staff, patients, staff, and other departments to identify problems and provide resolution in support of quality patient care.
Through daily rounds, assesses patient/family satisfaction issues and takes appropriate action to resolve.
Ensures adherence to WVU Medicine standards and policies and accrediting bodies for licensure, regulation and accreditation.
Facilitates professional development and oversees orientation, training, and continuing education of staff.
Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates the delivery of nursing care in accordance with Standards of Practice and Standards of Care.
Participates in community outreach activities to educate and promote good relations.
