Department: Gastroint Biology and Dis Ctr - 429001 Location: Chapel Hill, NC Duration: 12 Months Hours Per Week: 40 Full-Time Temporary FTE: 1 Hiring Range: Dependent on experience and/or qualifications Key Responsibilities
Design and conduct experiments focused on quantitative mass spectrometry, including sample extraction and preparation from biological matrices. Analyze and interpret complex data sets derived from tandem LC-MS/MS methodology. Prepare and present research findings through written manuscripts, grant proposals, and oral presentations at lab meetings and conferences. Mentor undergraduate students, providing training in laboratory techniques and data analysis. Troubleshoot and maintain mass spectrometry and chromatography equipment. Independently resolve experimental challenges and relate outcomes to broader research context. Adapt published experimental protocols for laboratory use. Qualifications
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Pharmacology, Analytical Chemistry, or related field with recent research experience. Expertise in modern mass spectrometry equipment and software from various vendors. Proficiency in pipetting, sample extraction, and preparation from biological matrices. Experience handling large datasets, particularly mass spectrometry-based analyses. Demonstrated independence and problem‑solving ability. Strong communication skills for manuscript preparation and grant writing. Proven ability to train and work constructively with diverse laboratory personnel. Willingness to work occasional long hours as research demands. Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be able to complete repetitive tasks. May require nights/weekends/after‑hours work based on sample/experimental needs. Must be able to work in a collaborative environment.
