Boiler Technician, Class II to V

to provide service and repair for condensing, non‑condensing, water tube, fire tube, and pulse type boilers.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Test and commission new and existing boiler installations.

Troubleshoot, service, repair, retrofit, and recommend solutions to bring customer boilers, burners, and controls back to fully functional condition.

Diagnose and repair condensing, non‑condensing, water tube, fire tube, and pulse type boilers.

Complete internal and external inspections of boilers, burners, and associated controls to assess function, service life, and expected service life.

Repair and/or replace refractory, gaskets, parts, and miscellaneous controls.

Evaluate basic boiler room systems (steam and hydronic), gather information, and help solve problems.

Utilize combustion analysis equipment and properly adjust fire control systems to achieve design conditions; replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring using electrician‑hand tools and test equipment.

Retrofit boiler control systems.

Perform routine and annual inspections, including cleaning of water and fire sides of the boiler.

Schedule preventive maintenance and respond to service calls for assigned customer contract base.

Work with limited supervision most of the time.

Participate in an ‘On‑Call’ service rotation.

Assist other technicians as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education and/or Experience High school diploma or GED required. Ideal candidate should have 2 to 5 years of experience troubleshooting and servicing boilers from light commercial to industrial water‑tube on a variety of boiler types and manufacturers. Experience on boiler fire control systems and understanding of all aspects of boiler safety and operation is required. Must possess valid driver’s license and meet MVR requirements to operate company vehicle. Overtime, on‑call, and weekend work may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Mathematical Skills Basic math skills: ability to perform basic operations using units of American money, weight measurement, and volume.

Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed and sometimes complex written or oral instructions and to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid driver’s license required.

Physical Demands Must be able to climb ladders, lift and carry 50 or more pounds, distinguish colors for electrical work, tolerate confined spaces, and work in hot or cold environments. Exposure to dust, dirt, allergens, refrigerants, or other hazardous conditions may occur.

Work Environment The work environment includes heights, seasonal temperature extremes, confined spaces, and the use of personal protection equipment (PPE) is required while performing tasks.
