Border Patrol Agent (BPA) GL-5/7 grade levels. Duty assignments at offer may include the Southwest Border and prioritized locations. U.S. Border Patrol determines duty assignments at the time of offer based on operational needs and may not align with first-choice preferences. Relocation may be required. EARN UP TO $30,000 IN RECRUITMENT INCENTIVES

— Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents will be offered a $20,000 incentive. The first $10,000 is paid after successfully completing training at the Border Patrol Academy; the remaining $10,000 is paid upon completing a three-year service agreement. New BPAs accepting a prioritized location (Sierra Blanca, Presidio, Sanderson, Comstock, Freer, Hebbronville, TX; Lordsburg, NM; or Ajo, AZ) will be eligible for an additional $10,000. Applicants currently in pre-employment do not need to reapply to be eligible for the incentive. Annual Base Salary for newly appointed BPAs varies by grade level: GL-5/GL-7 $49,739 - $89,518 per year. Duty location impacts pay rates; locality pay for federal law enforcement can be higher in some locations. A BPA may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay under the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with progression to GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12. Promotion to the next higher grade level typically occurs after 52 weeks in each grade level without reapplying. Border Patrol Agents may choose from federal benefits including health, dental, other insurance plans, a generous leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan (retirement plan). Duties and Responsibilities

As a BPA, you will be part of a 60,000+ workforce protecting the American people by safeguarding borders, deterring illicit activity, and supporting national economic security. Typical assignments include: Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspecting documents to determine citizenship or violations. Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers near borders by maintaining surveillance from covert positions, including infrared scopes during night operations. Interpreting and following tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry or contraband. Performing farm checks, building checks, traffic checks, city patrols, and transportation checks. Patrolling international boundaries and coastal waterways using government assets such as vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, off-road vehicles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and motorcycles to accomplish the USBP mission. Qualifications

GL-5 grade level

qualifications: One year of general work experience that demonstrates leadership, decision-making, and the ability to learn regulations; OR a bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited college or university; OR a combination of general work experience and education as documented with your resume and transcripts. GL-7 grade level

qualifications: One year of specialized work experience showing ability to make sound judgments and decisions in firearms use, interact effectively with the public, analyze information rapidly, and make prompt decisions. Relevant experience may include law enforcement, security, or related fields. Education substitution for GL-7 includes a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement, or one year of graduate-level education in a related field, or a combination of experience and education. Note: Previous law enforcement or military experience may qualify you for GL-9 or GS-11. Refer to the BPA GL-9-11 announcement for details. Other Requirements

Citizenship: You must be a U.S. Citizen. Residency: Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years. Age Restriction: Candidates must be referred before age 40, unless previously or currently in certain federal civilian law enforcement positions. Veterans’ Preference may apply. Formal Training: After hire, you will attend about six months of training at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, NM, covering immigration laws, USBP operations, driver training, physical techniques, firearms, and related topics.
