Academic Instructor (Education and Workforce) – Goddard Riverside Location: Stanley M. Isaacs- Education Workforce, New York, NY Salary: $48,000 – $55,000 per year Organization
The Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) is a non-profit, multi-service organization focusing on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers in East Harlem and Yorkville and deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational. Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, goal-oriented, energetic, and results-focused professional to provide: 1) focused academic instruction to adults 18 years old and up enrolled in GED Prep classes, and 2) instructional support to young adults engaged in High School Equivalency and college readiness classes. The instructor should engage with people from diverse backgrounds and learning abilities, create positive relationships with participants, and be a self-starter committed to the mission and values of the Isaacs Center and the Education Workforce Development Department. Schedule
Part-time 29 hours/week, or Full-time 35 hours/week. Responsibilities, Roles, and Essential Duties
Provide basic education in a creative and stimulating manner for adults and out-of-school youth, fostering a nurturing and supportive environment Establish and maintain an environment that respects individuals from diverse backgrounds Teach, develop, and help students master the Mathematical subtest Prepare and facilitate daily lessons and activities based on student interests, abilities, proficiency, and class factors Plan classwork and homework to support understanding of course objectives and literacy skills Develop weekly assessments to measure mastery and track progress Maintain an orderly classroom by establishing procedures and behavior expectations Research, evaluate, and assess adult literacy issues relevant to adult literacy programs Demonstrate strong time management and communication skills Maintain student confidentiality regarding educational, social, and emotional challenges Apply positive youth development strategies to address behavioral challenges and celebrate achievement Have basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Submit required reports, including monthly reports to supervisor Maintain and input program data (attendance, case notes, grades, etc.) Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and coaching opportunities Implement all health and safety protocols as required Perform additional duties as assigned by management Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor\'s Degree in Education or related field with relevant experience; MA/MS a plus Minimum 2 years of successful instruction/facilitation Demonstrated success engaging with at-risk populations Experience with curriculum development, focused on thematic units of study Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills Working knowledge of the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and the current GED exam Expertise in Common Core-aligned instruction Equal Opportunity
