Summary

SUMMARY:

We are currently seeking a

Telemetry Technician

to join our Cardiac Renal Inpatient Unit team. This 0.80 FTE (64 hours per pay period) role will work on-site (Night and Every Other Weekend). Purpose of this position:

Monitors heart rhythm pattern for identified patient care areas using telemetry equipment. Analyzes rhythm intervals, watches for acute rhythm changes, and communicates with nursing regarding patient telemetry status changes. Performs additional unit support duties under the direction of the unit manager/designee.

Responsibilities

Interprets telemetry rhythms, monitors for changes, and notifies RN of patient telemetry status changes

Recognizes and troubleshoots equipment malfunction

Exhibits critical thinking skills and appropriate judgments in decision making and actions related to alarm parameters, antiarrhythmic detection, and rhythm quality

Maintains knowledge and skill level in all aspects of telemetry equipment and monitoring

Assists in emergency situations as directed by nursing and/or medical staff

Follows procedure for correct patient identification

Performs routine and complex telemetry monitoring procedures within established guidelines

Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern, and prior variances

Informs nurse of variances to initiate examination of patient

Measures length and height of patients rhythm pattern on graphic tape readout using calipers and posts information on the appropriate documentation form/EHR

Supports unit with communication and other operational duties as delegated by the manager/designee

Organizes assigned work and accurately completes workload

Communicates with departments when needed to ensure an orderly, efficient, and timely workflow

Under direction of the manager, helps in the training/orientation of new employees

Readily accepts changes in assignment and demonstrates flexibility in altering workflow and/or job responsibilities

Communicates effectively and works collaboratively with the unit charge nurses, staff nurses, RRT/Flyer, and physicians

Minimum Qualifications

EMT certification

Successful completion of paramedic clinical rotations

Medical assistant with ECG or stress test experience

Minimum of one semester of nursing or medical school

An approved combination equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation

Acute healthcare experience preferred

Related college/vocational preparation preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Excellent verbal expression and written communication skills

Demonstrated ability to prioritize, organize, and efficiently perform job functions in a fast paced environment

Computer and clerical skills

Knowledge of medical terminology
