A new position has been posted for a Smart Grid Solution Architect. The role focuses on enhancing the Smart Grid ecosystem that will enable next-generation operational capabilities around Outage Management, Advanced Applications, Distribution Automation, Smart Devices and Application & Infrastructure while maintaining awareness of Cyber Security concerns and best practices. POSITION CONCEPT

The Smart Grid Solutions Architect will be expected to provide innovative design suggestions to assist the team in building a Smart Grid ecosystem that will enable next-generation operational capabilities while maintaining awareness of Cyber Security concerns and best practices. Work with seasoned professionals who are leading efforts in Grid Transformation in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, and agile environment. Functions as a key asset across organizational and digital technology businesses and will help set the direction and establish the approach for integrating Transmission and Distribution applications into the digital landscape. Design an architecture that supports the most effective, reliable, and secure digital ecosystem that meets the needs of and provides a foundation for our digital energy future.

Duties and Responsibilities

Contribute to the digital transformation of Transmission and Distribution business by having a strong understanding of Energy utility operations, business, and systems: Energy Management System (EMS), Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Outage Management System (OMS), North American Electric Reliability Corp (NERC), Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA).

Work closely with Transmission, Distribution, and Asset Management teams to provide architectural solutions that are flexible, scalable and agile - capable of synchronizing with continuously changing business requirements. This may involve leading cross-organization teams to deliver effective solutions in an agile manner.

Lead technical design workshops, assessments, and planning sessions. Review functional requirements and designs ensuring documented requirements are delivered with excellence.

Lead the development of architectural solutions and designs for the energy utility of the future to harness advanced data technology, data management, and analytical tools to improve business performance and deliver value-added functionality.

Develop organizational level multi-year Smart Grid Strategies to assist with technology change and budgetary planning.

Assist in the evaluation of new Smart Grid Solutions for integration into the technology stack.

Contribute to the development, maintenance, implementation, and reinforcement of the future-state Grid operating model and the continued maturing of the Digital organization.

Assist Electric Delivery Organization in architecting OT solutions to meet requirements while ensuring adherence to architecture standards. Creates and maintains solution architecture and other design artifacts.

Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences, Information Systems, or other computer-related disciplines.

Preferred: Advanced degree in engineering, computer sciences, information systems, or other computer-related disciplines.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred: Professional certifications related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position.

Experience Required: 10 years of experience in information technology and operational technology (IT/OT) architecture and systems engineering in the utility industry such as; Energy Management System (EMS), Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), Grid Intelligence & Security (GIS), Outage Management System (OMS), North American Electric Reliability Corp (NERC), Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and IoT.

Experience with Oracle, Microsoft SQL, PL/SQL, HANA; and/or other RDBMS and Windows, Linux, and/or other server environments.

Experience with current technology implementation patterns including service-oriented architectures, integration platforms (i.e. BizTalk, FME, etc.) and cloud hybrid configurations.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

Understand and stay current with utility industry trends and provide architectural solutions to resolve issues and bring value to the business by translating functional requirements into technical configuration. Assessing the impact on existing and future applications.

Demonstrated understanding of basic electrical engineering theories and principles.

Knowledge in Cloud technology.

Proven ability to manage and resolve complex and sometimes ambiguous technical issues with critical and creative thinking.
