District: Anchorage School District Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program. Must meet paraprofessional requirements for Alaska through one of the following methods: 48 college semester credits from an accredited institution, or a passing score of 459+ on the ETS Paraprofessional Assessment, or passing the WorkKeys assessment, or ASD Master Teacher paraprofessional training. Basic literacy skills in reading, writing, and math. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust with staff, parents, students, and the community. Ability to establish professional relationships. Knowledge of first aid. Experience working with students in educational or related settings. Two years of relevant experience. Computer literacy including word processing, printing, and email. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interpret educational and behavioral documents. Ability to recall details of behavioral support plans. Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with team members. Ability to interpret information from professionals and support students accordingly. Calm demeanor during conflicts. For neighborhood schools: Physical conditioning and support skills, training in PBIS, reinforcement, behavioral interventions, and de-escalation. For special schools: Physical support skills including activities like running and lifting, training in de-escalation techniques. Job Responsibilities: Provide instructional support in reading, math, writing, etc., under teacher supervision. Prepare and modify instructional materials. Collect data on academic and behavioral progress. Collaborate with colleagues and community agencies. Follow instructions and implement educational strategies. Support students as per IEPs, including behavioral and social interventions. Implement de-escalation techniques. Support students in various school settings, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor areas. Maintain confidentiality and promote diversity and respect. Physical and Mental Demands: Frequent movement, communication, and ability to lift less than 40 lbs. Handle conflict and make decisions under pressure. Manage stress working with diverse populations. Work Environment: Professional setting with diverse individuals. Exposure to moderate noise and outdoor weather conditions. Additional Information: Duties may extend beyond those listed; flexibility required. Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Employment contingent on background checks.
