LOCATION: Montclair, NJ | DEPARTMENT: ICE | REPORTS TO: GENERAL MANAGER | STATUS: PART-TIME (NON-EXEMPT)
Overview Clary Anderson Ice Arena is a premier sport, recreation and entertainment destination focused on improving the health and economic vitality of Montclair, NJ. You will be joining a championship level team focused on fun, fulfillment and service built to enrich the community as well as your career and personal growth. The arena is managed by Sports Facilities Management, LLC (SFM), a Sports Facilities Companies (SFC) organization.

Position Summary The Learn to Skate Instructor will lead the facility\'s youth (and some adult) ice skating offerings, including Developmental Classes (ages 3-8), After-School/Home School programs, Clinics, Camps, Private/Semi-Private Trainings, Performance Sessions, and Birthday Parties. The instructor is responsible for coaching and developing skaters, designing and implementing training programs, providing instruction and feedback, and fostering a positive and competitive environment for athletes.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Teach relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to a wide range of athletes, individuals and groups
Develop and implement training programs tailored to the skill levels and goals of athletes
Conduct on-ice and off-ice training sessions, focusing on technical skills, tactics, and physical conditioning
Teach fundamental and advanced techniques of the Learn to Skate program
Monitor, evaluate, and enhance athlete performance and needs
Provide suitable feedback via positivity, encouragement, example, and motivation
Demonstrate activities clearly by breaking down tasks into a sequence
Maintain friendly and courteous interactions with athletes, parents, and team members
Identify athlete strengths and areas for development
Ensure a safe environment for all athletes
Implement the curriculum in an accurate, creative, positive, and efficient fashion
Ideal candidate may include coaching licenses (or active pursuit of) and familiarity with ISI and USFSA skating programs
Present a neat appearance and professional demeanor
Inspire confidence and self-belief in athletes
Required Skills & Experience
At least 5 years of coaching/teaching experience in youth sports with athletes of varying aptitudes
Proven experience as a coach or in a related role, with a strong background in figure skating
Ability to demonstrate and participate in on-ice activities
Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
Team player with strong collaboration abilities
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, primarily after-school and weekends
Current CPR/First Aid certifications, or willingness to obtain within a specified period
Working Conditions And Physical Demands
Must be able to move or lift lightweight equipment
Work is performed in an ice arena environment with cold temperatures and varying noise levels
Position requires standing and activity for extended periods, including squatting, stooping, jogging, or bending into awkward positions
