Overview
The position is a firefighting/paramedic role with base salary of $57,449.26. The $64,630.42 salary listed above includes a 12.5% Firefighter/Paramedic pay supplement. The earning potential for this position, depending on qualifications and assignment, is up to $72,951.58 within the first year of employment. Responsibilities
This is technical work in emergency response in the application of emergency medical care; in the prevention, control, and suppression of fire (structural and non-structural); and in response to natural and human-made disasters. Work is public safety oriented to protect life and property through technical knowledge, skills, and abilities in fire science, hazardous materials management, building construction, and emergency medicine. Work is physical and may involve personal danger. Employees must act without direct supervision and exercise independent discretion in emergencies. Essential functions may vary by location and assignment. Performs routine station tasks to maintain operational readiness, including inspection/testing of equipment, stocking materials, inspecting PPE, training on equipment/apparatus, pre-fire planning and drills, repairing equipment, maintaining conditioning, and facility upkeep. Performs fire prevention, fire control and suppression tasks in incidents including pre-incident planning, hydrant inspection, hose connections, scene security, extinguishing fires, entering structures, confined spaces, ladder operations, rescue apparatus operation, and post-fire cleanup and salvage. Performs emergency rescue operations including responding to 911 calls, extrication, patient stabilization, administration of BLS/ACLS/CPR, assessing illness/injury, and coordinating transports. Performs administrative tasks such as documenting calls, incident reports, patient conditions, quality assurance, and post-incident analysis. Responds as part of a unit to emergencies including hazardous materials, hurricanes, crashes, and other critical incidents. Functions in a public relations capacity by providing fire safety information, conducting presentations, and educating the community. Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum age 18 years High school diploma or equivalent (foreign high school diploma evaluation may be required) Current State of Florida Firefighter II certificate at time of application State of Florida Paramedic license required Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) administered through the National Testing Network; test results must be submitted with the application Must pass Swim Test prior to submitting an application; swim test results must be submitted with the application Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification (AHA or equivalent) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (AHA or equivalent) Valid Florida driver license (no restrictions affecting job performance) with current address; submit Certified DMV driving history with the application Arrest records: submit official court dispositions if applicable; provide written explanation if arrested Veteran’s Preference: DD214 Member 4 form with the application (must be submitted) All required documents must be attached to the online application; incomplete applications will not be processed CPAT completion date must be within 1 year of the application date Swim test results must be attached to the application PALS or PEPP preferred (AHA/AA or equivalent is acceptable); EVOC completion preferred Additional Information
