Job Description
Position Description:
The
Senior Paralegal
completes various administrative and substantive legal support tasks independently and is responsible for performing work that requires significant knowledge of a variety of legal concepts, with limited supervision. While not practicing law, this position will focus on supporting litigation and dispute resolution and subpoena response throughout all areas of the Ameritas enterprise. This position requires a high degree of attention to detail, organizational skills and accuracy. The ideal candidate is a lifelong learner, accountable to deadlines, proactive and a team player.
Position Location:
This is a hybrid role working partially in-office (Lincoln, NE) and partially from home.
What you do:
Regularly act as a point of contact and interface with internal associates and business leaders, and persons outside of Ameritas, including outside counsel.
Review, assess, and prepare reports, memoranda, letters, agreements, pleadings and other complex legal documents for attorney review.
Receive, review and process summonses, lawsuits, complaints, subpoenas and other official legal notices served on Ameritas.
Monitor, track and handle various aspects of ongoing litigation and disputes, including coordinating legal holds, discovery and fact-gathering, preparing various reports, and developing, organizing and maintaining procedures for litigation.
Coordinate, track and handle all aspects of third-party subpoena responses and other requests for information, including due diligence searches, redaction and production, and developing, organizing, and maintaining procedures for subpoena response.
Communicate with many diverse internal departments and officers to obtain necessary information.
Process bills, invoices, and requests for reimbursement for approval and payment, including using Legal Tracker for e-billing and matter management of litigated cases
Regularly handle sensitive and/or confidential materials with the utmost confidence and highest ethical standards.
Schedule, coordinate, and participate in meetings.
May prepare agendas, reports, and resolutions for board meetings and attorney review.
What you bring:
Associate degree in Paralegal studies required or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
2-4 years of experience in a Paralegal role required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel) and internet usage required
Litigation experience desired and preferred.
Familiarity with or experience with Legal Tracker preferred

This position will be eligible to participate in our Short-Term Incentive Plan with the annual target defined by the plan.
