Overview

Must hold a state independent license such as LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LMCH. This position has the primary responsibility of providing the full breadth of Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) counseling services to children of all ages of military service members and their families at military installations and off military installations. Services may include non-medical counseling, health and wellness presentations, consultation with parents, personnel, schools, and consultation to installation command regarding behavioral health issues affecting children and youth. CYB School counselors will be assigned to DoDEA schools and community schools and will need to have experience working in a school setting to qualify for a school position. CYB School counselors will also be assigned to youth programs, summer camps, and on demand assignments. Counselors work closely with installation and military branch Points of Contact (POC) to ensure the program is provided within scope and meets installation and school needs. Responsibilities

Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling directly to eligible children and youth of service members at assigned primary and secondary locations, including assessment, brief counseling, consultation, action planning, referrals, linkage to resources, and follow-up as indicated. Support staff and personnel of DoDEA, community schools, and summer camps (if available/assigned); provide parent training and guidance. Deliver training and health and wellness presentations; participate in health fairs and other base/installation activities focused on children and youth. Enter counselor activity data daily through smartphone or web applications, ensuring accurate reporting while maintaining confidentiality and anonymity of service/family members. Establish and maintain relationships with community resources focused on children and youth; maintain visibility within the school to ensure MFLC services are accessible, following line of sight protocol. Collaborate with POC to provide CYB services that address installation/facility needs; develop professional working relationships with the installation/facility POC. Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting according to DoD protocol; coordinate cases with Regional Supervisor/Regional Director. Communicate with Regional Supervisor; participate in regular supervision; respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the POC and approved by the OSD program manager; flex schedule as needed. Participate in regular in-services/training, Quality Improvement committees, studies, pilot programs and other contract activities; support pilot program certification and training processes and integrate activities in non-medical counseling work. Qualifications

Master’s Degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health-related field. Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a state, DC, US territory or commonwealth that authorizes independent practice; minimum two years of post-licensure clinical experience. Demonstrate intermediate competencies in technology and software (Microsoft Suite, Internet, smartphone/tablet and application navigation, video-conferencing). Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children; ability to respond quickly to emergent situations on a military installation or in a school setting; willingness to traverse distances and work in outdoor or base conditions; comply with site-specific requirements, including immunizations if needed. Ability to prove US Citizenship and fluency in English; understanding and empathy for service members and families; ability to develop trusting relationships and work with diverse backgrounds. Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI), Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal Background Check, and FBI fingerprints check. Vehicle Operator’s License: possess a valid US state driver’s license; may be required to obtain a military vehicle operator’s permit for TDY locations, if required by the contract. Must meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology; school-assigned counselors must have prior work experience in a school setting.
