Overview
The Wyoming Department of Transportation is seeking a Systems Administrator for the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) / Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) program. This position maintains and is responsible for all Intelligent Transportation back-end systems for WYDOT to include specifications, configuration, security, and disaster recovery. The GIS/ITS program is responsible for roadside, pre-trip, and in-vehicle information systems that provide travel information to the public and support WYDOT’s Transportation Management Center (TMC). Systems supported by this position, such as wyoroad.info and map.wyoroad.info, are critical for public safety and must remain operational with minimal downtime. Cheyenne is a steadily growing community along the Front Range, but still true to the history of the Old West. The city offers nearby access to mountain biking, skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. Cheyenne is also home to the Daddy of \'em All – Cheyenne Frontier Days – held the last week of July. Wyoming is one of only nine states with no state income tax. Responsible for assisting with daily system administration and production support for GIS/ITS roadside intelligent transportation systems, servers, and desktop/laptop computers, as well as network infrastructure, including: Windows Server and Desktop administration Linux Server and Desktop Administration Microsoft Hypervisor environment administration Diagnosing, troubleshooting, isolating, and repairing any issues with the GIS/ITS devices, computers, or networks Managing system access and security Performing system and software installation, upgrades, and maintenance Providing technical support to team members Ensuring software licensing requirements are met Responsible for disaster recovery plans and processes, including: Assist in developing, maintaining, and testing disaster recovery plans and processes for all GIS/ITS systems and data Participating in continuity of operations (COOP) testing Assist in monitoring, maintaining, and testing server, application, and database backups Responsible for system security to include: Works with peers to ensure the operation of multi-factor authentication processes using public key infrastructure and one-time passwords to maintain GIS/ITS systems security Assist in developing security procedures and processes for difficult-to-secure devices and environments Assist in authorizing and implementing data-level security Assisting in establishing and maintaining standards and procedures Coordinating with other agencies and governmental jurisdictions to ensure required security measures are in place Working within the GIS/ITS team to identify and specify complex business requirements and processes Accomplishing required documentation for change control, system functionality, metrics, timekeeping, and any additional areas that the agency specifies Under general supervision, conduct needs analysis for systems and infrastructures, including computerized automation, gather information, define problems and requirements Evaluating systems and making recommendations based on findings Planning and recommending changes that meet operational needs Coordinating with individuals such as programmers to ensure software and system compatibility of in-house applications May act as a project leader on large projects, coordinating projects with contractors Fostering collaboration with other team members Higher-tier responder to network infrastructure and/or server emergencies during work hours or off hours Preferences
Preference may be given to those with experience in Linux server administration Preference may be given to those with experience in database administration Preference may be given to those with experience in multi-user environments and thin-client technology Preference may be given to those with experience in roadside and in-vehicle intelligent transportation technology systems Preference may be given to those with experience in multi-factor authentication Knowledge
Knowledge of analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, and management of computer network-related hardware and software. Knowledge of employing information technology to meet business requirements. Knowledge of computer hardware & software and database administration. Knowledge of Windows server, Hypervisor, and desktop administration. In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing, firewalls, and computer security, and best practices in the knowledge of Linux server administration, with in-depth knowledge of KVM and LXD hypervisors. In-depth knowledge of multi-user environments and thin-client technology. Knowledge of multi-factor authentication using RADIUS, Yubikeys, public/private keys, and one-time passwords. Knowledge of Oracle Postgres, MariaDB, MongoDB, and Microsoft SQL databases. In-depth knowledge of ITS and GIS systems. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor\'s Degree (typically in Computer Technology) Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience in Systems and Infrastructure with acquired knowledge at the level of a CT Systems & Infrastructure Specialist I OR

3-5 years of progressive work experience in Systems and Infrastructure with acquired knowledge at the level of a CT Systems & Infrastructure Specialist I Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

This position generally works in an office environment but may be required to travel. The incumbent must be able to lift 50 pounds and work after normal business hours to minimize downtime. This position is required to be on call The incumbent must be able to pass a background check Notes

Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date. Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12 month-period. If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
