Environmental Scientist / Industrial Hygienist

by joining the Aerostar Environmental and Construction LLC team, a subsidiary of BBCH! We are seeking scientists who are interested in identifying, investigating, evaluating, and assessing elements, chemicals, and materials that could be detrimental to the environment, the public, and workers. We support and encourage cross-training through our business lines to promote growth in your area of expertise. Our projects are located throughout, and occasionally outside, the United States, which makes travel an imperative part of job expectations. Our team is looking for scientifically minded individuals seeking constant growth and inquisitiveness to enter into the environmental and industrial hygiene field or ready to accelerate to a more advanced position in these fields. This position is based out of our Jacksonville, Florida office. Responsibilities: Conduct building assessments in occupied and unoccupied buildings including occupied spaces, confined spaces, roofs, and crawl spaces. Collect samples of multiple media including air samples, bulk samples, samples in-situ, and exposure samples. Conduct oversight activities of workers and monitor and direct work practices. Maintain certification and clearance in sensitive sites including DoD controlled facilities, child education facilities, assisted living facilities, and occupied residences. Interact with facility and residential occupants in a professional manner. Perform calculations of spatial and material square footage. Understand, learn, interpret, and implement OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations and standards. Maintain meticulous note-taking and documentation. Develop reports with observational information, laboratory analytical results, and recommendations based on regulations and industry standards. Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s or Bachelor's in Geology, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety and Health, or related studies. 0-3+ years of experience in performing environmental field investigations and/or other geoscience-related fields. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. As a condition of employment, you may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable references and background check results. Preferred Qualifications: 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification. Any licensing/certifications associated with asbestos, lead paint, radon, or mold. Construction experience and familiarity with building construction. Necessary Physical Requirements: Employees must maintain a constant state of mental alertness. This position requires the ability to maneuver around work sites, see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and clients. Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, crawling, walking, or standing for prolonged periods; frequent opportunity to work outside the office environment for extended periods; exposure to the elements including extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, or other inclement weather; walking over rough and uneven surfaces; and routine lifting of 35 pounds or more. If required, individuals must properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, safety-toed boots, eye protection, respiratory protection, and hearing protection. Job is performed in a combination of office work, throughout occupied and unoccupied buildings, and outdoor site locations. The office setting includes exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse. Building assessments will be conducted throughout buildings including crawl spaces, attic spaces, and confined spaces. Outdoor settings include walking, driving, and carrying supplies throughout all seasons with exposure to heat and cold conditions, and potentially wildlife. Individuals are occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise. Compensation:

Pay range $50,000 - $60,000 annually.
