Job Summary:
The Assistant Coach- Tennis Coach/Dorm Manager
is a live-in position
and is responsible for assisting the Head Coach-Tennis with various aspects of the program, including preseason, practice, games, scouting, and recruiting student athletes. Additionally, this position oversees students in the Dormitory and assists in developing and implementing residential and community activities within that dorm building. The Assistant Coach-Tennis/Dorm Manager must abide by the rules and regulations established by Cowley College, Jayhawk Athletic Conference, and the NJCAA. Essential Functions: Teach fundamentals and techniques as directed by the Head Coach. Assist the head Coach in performing assigned responsibilities. Follow policies of the NJCAA and KJCCC. Attend team activities, meetings, clinics, and in-service training. Remain at team activities until all participants have left or designate a responsible person. Promote sportsmanship and good moral and physical behavior. Assist in all aspects of the tennis program, including equipment management, recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, and academic supervision. Encourage athletes to participate in all student programs. Work with Athletic Director and other coaches to upgrade the athletic program. Attend all tennis contests. Maintain professional relationships with staff, vendors, and external organizations. Comply with all College policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by the Tennis Head Coach. Dorm Manager Responsibilities: Maintain dorm manager hours as set by supervisor. Serve as a positive role model and work directly with dorm students to enforce rules. Assist in training and mentoring Resident Assistants (RA). Develop semester dorm activity schedules and coordinate communication. Manage budget for activities and market events campus-wide. Supervise and evaluate Resident Assistants, connecting student growth to learning outcomes. Manage room changes, check-in/out students, and inspect for damages. Maintain accurate rooming rosters and housing reports. Conduct regular safety and security inspections and follow up on concerns. Assist with safety drills, room and drug inspections, dorm lock-outs, and on-call duties. Refer students to college services as needed. Handle dorm student packages and mail distribution. Required Knowledge and Skills: Extensive knowledge of tennis and ability to recruit, coach, and teach student athletes. Understanding of policies of NJCAA, KJCCC, and college regulations. Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks and work independently. Effective relationship-building skills with diverse populations. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies. Commitment to quality improvement and confidentiality. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree preferred. CPR and First Aid Certification. High school, college, or equivalent coaching experience. Knowledge of athletic injury prevention and care. Valid Driver’s License; Commercial License preferred. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, lift up to 50 pounds, and operate a vehicle. Work may be outdoors and in sports facilities.
