Postdoctoral Fellow in Mountain Social-Ecological Systems Modeling
The
Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory
and
Department of Ecosystem Science & Sustainability
at
Colorado State University
seek candidates for a postdoctoral fellow position to work on synthesis and modeling of mountain social-ecological systems as part of an NSF-funded research coordination network (RCN).
The RCN aims to: (1) expand an international network of mountain biophysical and social science researchers and stakeholders; (2) explore and evaluate transdisciplinary modeling frameworks for mountain social-ecological systems; and (3) promote approaches linking science with policy and practice. The project involves developing geospatial social-ecological datasets, participatory models, and conducting synthesis across diverse mountain social-ecological systems. The project leaders include Julia Klein (CSU), Anne Nolin (Oregon State University), Catherine Tucker (University of Florida), and Robin Reid (CSU), in collaboration with Adrienne Grüt-Regamey (ETH, Switzerland), Sandra Lavorel (CNRS, France), Birgit Möller (Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research), and the Mountain Sentinels Collaborative Network.
The successful candidate will be responsible for building and synthesizing GIS databases, co-developing future scenarios, designing and testing social-ecological models, writing synthesis papers, and developing visualization tools for stakeholders. They will also develop new research questions and lead network workshops and meetings.
Required Qualifications:
Experience and expertise in social-ecological systems modeling
Quantitative analysis skills
Proficiency in geographic information systems (GIS)
Strong organizational and communication skills (oral and written)
Desired Qualifications:
Ability to collaborate in an international, transdisciplinary team
Experience with stakeholder engagement and transdisciplinary processes
GIS programming and modeling skills
Knowledge of Bayesian, agent-based, or participatory modeling
Experience in mountain studies is beneficial
Record of scholarly publications and successful collaborations
Interest in innovative media tools for science communication
Salary is commensurate with experience. The initial appointment is for one year, renewable up to two years based on progress and funding. For more details, visit
