About The College/Unit/Department
The Department of Entomology at UGA consists of 39 faculty members situated in a stimulating, multi-campus environment with an excellent reputation in research, extension and teaching. The three campuses of the University of Georgia (Athens, Tifton and Griffin) are multidisciplinary, multi-agency facilities with access to well-equipped research farms throughout the state. Opportunities for collaboration within the Entomology Department and with colleagues in other departments and institutions are plentiful and encouraged.

Position Summary
The Department of Entomology in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track position in Extension Apiculture and Pollinator Health, open rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) position with apiculture and crop pollination responsibilities. This is a nine-month, tenure track appointment (75% Extension, 20% Research, 5% Service) position with two months of summer salary (11.111% per month) guaranteed in the Department of Entomology in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia. The position will be located at the UGA Athens Campus.
Additional Requirements
Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Entomology, or closely related field, with a strong background of relevant course work, a record of scholarly achievement and publication, and excellent communication skills.
To be considered for the rank of Associate Professor, candidates must have at least 5 years of rank at the Assistant Professor level and show evidence of emerging stature as regional or national authorities per the criteria listed in the Appointment, Promotion & Tenure of Academic Rank Faculty (https://provost.uga.edu/faculty-affairs/promotiontenure-evaluation/academic-rank/) and the discipline-specific criteria for Department of Entomology (https://provost.uga.edu/wp-content/uploads/ptu-criteria-entomology.pdf). The appointee will develop a strong, extramurally funded extension and research program to support the beekeeping industry with opportunities to pursue work in complementary model systems. With an annual farmgate value exceeding $78 million, Georgia is one of three leading states in the nation in beekeeping industries. The value of honey bees and other pollinators to Georgia’s agricultural output was estimated at $367 million in 2015, increasing to $488 million by 2021. The position has enjoyed a history of strong funding support from the Georgia Beekeepers Association and allied industries. Extension and research efforts should address the ecological and environmental stressors contributing to bee declines, including new and established invasive pests. Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas including apiculture (honey bee husbandry), pollinator conservation and ecology, and crop pollination or integrative pest and pollinator management is highly desirable. Extension activities should improve sustainable and profitable apiculture systems, provision of pollination services for Georgia’s specialty crop industries. Mentorship and training of graduate students is a key responsibility of the position. Collaboration with existing departmental faculty is expected.
