Role Description: The Substance Abuse Counselor I is responsible for providing drug and alcohol treatment to clients, including face-to-face individual, group, and family counseling as clinically appropriate. Responsibilities also include chart documentation and case management services related to client treatment, in accordance with all agency policies and procedures.
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health field or a minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent, with at least one of the following:
Full certification as a certified alcohol and drug counselor (CADC) in Delaware; or
Full certification by a nationally recognized body in addictions counseling; or
Five (5) years of documented clinical experience in substance abuse treatment.
Minimum Experience: Knowledge of drug and alcohol treatment and assessment principles. Ability to complete substance abuse assessments and stabilization services as needed. Effective communication with supervisors and staff. Timely and comprehensive reporting to supervisors and staff. Maintain quality documentation of services.
Required Clearances: Delaware criminal background clearance and verification that the employee is not on any Medicaid/Medicare Exclusion list.
Note: Additional related experience and/or education may be substituted at the discretion of the Personnel Officer.
