Base pay range: $33.64/hr - $35.69/hr. This sponsored trainee position performs tasks and training as required by the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office and attends a Level 1 Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Board Certification Academy. Upon successful completion of the Academy and obtaining a Level 1 P.O.S.T. Certification, this position transitions from Deputy Sheriff Trainee to a full-time sworn Deputy Sheriff in the Patrol Division of the Sheriff’s Office. During the trainee period, the Sheriff’s Office will advance the cost of the trainee’s Academy training and P.O.S.T. certification process. The balance is forgiven on a bi-weekly, pro rata basis over two calendar years. If the employee leaves before the balance is fully forgiven, the remaining pro rata balance is deducted from the final paycheck. A copy of the template agreement is provided upon request. Principal Job Duties

Completes trainings, orientation, and other duties assigned by sheriffs office trainers, supervisors, and command staff. Attends a P.O.S.T. Academy selected by the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office. Attendance includes a minimum of 550 hours of state-mandated training as outlined by the course curriculum and P.O.S.T. Academy Director. Communicates with the Sheriff’s Office throughout the P.O.S.T. Academy; progress is monitored and input provided by the Department for the duration of the Academy. Attends meetings and/or briefings as determined by Patrol Command Staff. Upon obtaining P.O.S.T. Certification, the Recruit/Trainee will be assigned as a Patrol Division Deputy Sheriff and must review and acknowledge the job description for that position. Immediately after certification, the Deputy Sheriff must successfully complete field training as administered by the Sheriff’s Office. Maintains physical fitness and readiness for academy participation. Supports crime prevention efforts and public safety education. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED. Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and a minimum of two (2) years of acceptable driving history. At least 21 years of age by completion of the P.O.S.T. Academy. U.S. Citizen or legal resident eligible for POST certification. No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history. Must pass background check, drug screening, physical agility test and examination, and psychological evaluation. Preferred Qualifications Formal education in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, or related field (bachelor’s or associate degree) is advantageous. Prior experience in security, military, or law enforcement support roles. Completion of some criminal justice coursework or related training. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Knowledge of human nature and problem-solving methods. Interpersonal communications skills. Ability to attend a full-time P.O.S.T. certified Police Academy as identified by the Sheriff’s Office. Ability to successfully complete the Police Academy and obtain a Level 1 P.O.S.T. Board certification. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Ability to learn and interpret applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Ability to retain knowledge of modern police principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Ability to read and write English effectively. Ability to perform work requiring good physical conditioning and coordination. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and provide clear, concise instructions. Ability to solve problems and function under pressure. Necessary Special Requirements Career progression: This position is a preparatory step for individuals seeking a full-time law enforcement career. Continued employment requires obtaining P.O.S.T. certification within 12 months of hire. Supervisory

Physical Demands Varying degrees of physical demand, including wearing 15-20 lbs of duty equipment. Lift and/or move objects weighing 200 pounds or more, defend against assault, rescue endangered people, navigate difficult terrain, and operate a vehicle in various conditions. Possess vision and hearing capabilities suitable for field work; perform First Aid/CPR as trained; operate a law enforcement vehicle; and meet other physical demands per the P.O.S.T.
