Stafford’s “All-In” Tutoring Plan prioritizes student academic needs in grades 3-5 to include those who were unsuccessful at mastering content as demonstrated by their performance on previous state Standards of Learning (SOL) assessments and those who are identified as “at risk” by their teachers or through performance on various screeners and assessments. The Intervention Specialist role requires a diverse skill set and a deep understanding of educational practices and student needs. Under the supervision of the school principal, the Intervention Specialist will coordinate services to students identified by the school administration to mitigate learning loss and accelerate students to on-grade-level instruction. Main Job Tasks And Responsibilities
Coordination of Intervention Services Coordinate local efforts to support the academic achievement of identified students Provide academic content tutoring, primarily in English language arts and/or mathematics, as directed by the school administration Collaborate with staff members, including teachers, instructional specialists/coaches, to develop and implement individualized tutoring plans Review student instructional data to inform tutoring goals and objectives for each student and to inform programmatic offerings to address identified needs Collaborate with staff members to identify current grade-level content Develop and curate resources to support student acceleration to meet grade-level expectations through tutoring services Engage in and provide ongoing professional learning relevant to implementation of the division- and school-based intervention expectations, including instructional resources Schedule and coordinate school tutoring sessions Monitor, document, and report student progress and academic achievement Train other school-based staff to implement academic interventions and oversee the implementation and progress of students served by paraprofessionals Support and demonstrate the core values of Stafford Schools Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to position Respond promptly and thoroughly to written and oral requests for information Maintain a clean, neat appearance appropriate to the position Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality Serve as a role model for students, colleagues, and the general public Work in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers Comply with all District and School policies and regulations, including but not limited to guidelines for confidentiality Perform other related duties as required/assigned Education And Experience
Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate License. A Postgraduate Professional license is preferred. At least three years’ experience as a classroom teacher Reading/Math Specialist, Special Education, or ESOL endorsement, preferred but not required Training in the Science of Reading Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge Pedagogical techniques and learning styles to match intervention to student needs Assessment expertise to identify academic strengths and weaknesses Intervention strategies to address academic deficits Skills Data Analysis Skills related to assessments Evidence-based intervention strategies/methods to address deficit areas Communication and collaboration to develop intervention plans Abilities Work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals Organize and perform work independently Meet deadlines for all work, even when working on multiple projects Show sustained effort and enthusiasm in the quality and quantity of work
Working Conditions And Physical Requirements
Work environment is at the assigned school location with limited exposure to dangerous chemicals or air quality elements and is light duty requiring occasional exertion of up to twenty (20) pounds of force to move or lift objects. The following physical and mental abilities are representative of those expected to complete the essential functions of the job: standing for prolonged periods; sitting for prolonged periods; operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment; moving the hands, wrists, or fingers repetitively; moving with force on the back or lower body repetitively; feeling, grasping, or holding objects by hand; identifying colors visually; identifying objects in low light or distant conditions; communicating via spoken language; communicating via written language; perceiving sounds; making decisions using logic and rational thinking.
