Job Description – Purpose and Scope

It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning. Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the System.

We hire adjunct (part-time) faculty on a rolling basis; teaching is based on student demand. We offer day, evening, and weekend classes at various times and locations during the academic year. Adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

Essential Job Functions

Teaches Psychology (PSYC) courses at a variety of times and locations Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines Meets with and advises students before or after class, by appointment, electronically, or by other appropriate methods Evaluates students to measure progress and informs students of their progress in a timely manner Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned

Mastery of course content Demonstrated leadership skills; collaborative, team-oriented facilitation Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills Ability to consider alternative viewpoints; ability to work with diverse groups Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning and distance learning Commitment to academic excellence and providing a dynamic climate for lifelong learning Ability to develop instructional approaches such as service learning, learning communities, and effective use of technology Ability to engage students with effective learning strategies

Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary with possible walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving. No special physical demands are required.

Work Schedule And Conditions

Equipment includes PC workstation, calculator, phone and general office equipment; specialized equipment as needed Interface with internal and external contacts as needed Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and/or lab environment with minimal safety hazards Hours vary by class time; instructors must meet scheduled classes and be available to students outside of class

Required Qualifications

Master’s in psychology or Master’s with 18 graduate hours in psychology; or Master’s in educational psychology, or counseling psychology with 18 graduate hours in psychology or related coursework

Salary

$55.44 per contact hour.
