Administrative Assistant II – Howard University We invite qualified candidates to join Howard University’s Talent Acquisition department as an Administrative Assistant II. This role supports departmental operations and contributes to the university’s strategic mission.

Key Responsibilities

Open and close the main office during the work week.

Receive and screen telephone calls and visitors; provide information regarding office policies and procedures.

Prepare and direct the preparation of minutes, notices, manuals, agendas, and correspondence with supporting documentation.

Maintain and reconcile budgets for departmental accounts; monitor expenditures.

Prepare special and recurring reports for supervisor; authorize payments within prescribed limits.

Coordinate office workflow; implement office procedures and practices.

Assign and monitor student workers as directed; relay direction from supervisor to coordinate administrative procedures.

Update departmental files regularly; assist with preparing the department’s annual report.

Compose correspondence and reports from rough drafts; schedule appointments for supervisor.

Ensure office staff are informed of new or revised procedures; update policy and procedure manuals.

Arrange meetings, conferences, facilities, and services; notify attendees of meeting time and place.

Assist the department with building its social media profile and growing its audience; ensure timely dissemination of information through bulletin boards and electronic documents.

Core Competencies

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and related applications.

Knowledge of general office procedures and basic record‑keeping.

Basic arithmetic, grammar, and spelling skills.

Effective oral and written communication.

Ability to establish harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, students, and the public.

Skill in using contemporary social media platforms.

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma or GED with 1‑3 years of general work experience.

AA/AS may be substituted for 4 years of required work experience.

BA/BS may be substituted for up to 4 years of work experience.

Compensation Salary range: $41,000 – $51,000 per year.
