Overview Post Doctoral Research Scientist or Associate Research Scientist – Atmospheric Science

The University of Wyoming is seeking two postdoctoral/associate research scientist positions in atmospheric science, focusing on aerosol-cloud interactions, cloud radiative effects and cloud feedback, atmospheric chemistry, extreme weather events, or planning observational deployments. The positions are part of the PROCEED project (Perturbed parameter ensemble Regression Optimization Center for Earth system model Evaluation and Development), a DOE-supported initiative aimed at reducing uncertainty in Earth System Model predictions.

Job Purpose Contribute to PROCEED activities, develop perturbed process ensembles in E3SM, and collaborate with national labs and other universities. The role includes leading peer-reviewed publications, creating data sets for community use, and coordinating with collaborators. The appointment may be at the postdoctoral level or associate research scientist level depending on experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Publish in peer-reviewed journals.

Present results at nationally and internationally recognized conferences.

Create, share, and archive reproducible and robust code.

Participate in group activities and collaborate with other researchers.

Contribute to writing proposals.

Minimum Qualifications Postdoctoral Scholar:

A Doctoral Degree is required; consideration given to applicants who will complete the degree prior to starting work.

A publication in peer-reviewed literature relevant to one of the focus areas listed above.

Associate Research Scientist:

A MS Degree is required; consideration given to applicants who will complete the degree prior to starting work.

Four publications in peer-reviewed literature relevant to one of the focus areas listed above.

Desired Qualifications Postdoctoral Scholar:

Strong programming skills (Python preferred).

Basic knowledge of machine learning.

Proficient oral and written English communication skills.

Ability to write high-quality peer-reviewed publications.

Highly driven and self-motivated; experience with Earth System Models and ARM-relevant observations is desirable.

Publication record in PROCEED focus areas.

Associate Research Scientist:

Ability to write high-quality peer-reviewed publications.

Highly driven and self-motivated; experience with Earth System Models and ARM-relevant observations is desirable.
