Overview

Join Purdue University as a Police Officer and play a pivotal role in ensuring safety and security on campus. You will engage in proactive observation and investigation of incidents, secure and examine crime scenes, conduct interviews, and generate comprehensive case reports. Duties include investigating traffic accidents, mediating disputes, and restoring order when disturbances arise. You will also provide essential police services, including traffic control and collaboration with other law enforcement agencies as needed, while upholding Indiana State laws and University regulations. Engage in community policing, actively support the campus community, and contribute to a safe university environment. Responsibilities

Proactive observation and investigation of criminal incidents (e.g., missing persons, disturbances, traffic issues, crowd management). Secure and examine crime scenes; interview victims, witnesses, suspects, and offenders; generate comprehensive case reports. Investigate traffic accidents and complete required reports; mediate disputes and restore order when disturbances arise. Provide police services such as traffic control; assist other law enforcement agencies as needed; manage crowds at special events. Engage in community policing and enforce Indiana State laws and Purdue University regulations. Incentives

Starting Pay: $72,137 per year plus benefits First Class Patrol Officer pay (After one year): $78,296 $6,000 sign-on bonus for Lateral officers (full-time, certified ILEA Graduate or equivalent; paid $3,000 on hire and $3,000 after probation) Longevity Pay up to $9,000 at year 24 Specialty Pay: $1,000 for first specialty; $750 for second and third specialties Qualifications

Required

High school diploma/GED Must complete the 40-hour Pre-Basic and Basic training through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy within 12 months of employment Must complete Purdue Probationary Officer Training and Purdue Field Training Program within 12 months Strong customer service orientation and good judgment Strong interpersonal, public relations, and written/oral communication skills Ability to adapt under pressure; maintain Indiana Police Officer certification with 24 hours of continuing education annually Must be physically and mentally capable of performing all duties; pass Purdue Police Officer Physical Abilities Test annually At least 21 years of age; valid Indiana driver’s license and U.S. citizenship Must maintain a valid Indiana Driver's license Preferred

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or related field One year of experience in public safety or law enforcement Bilingual abilities Hiring Process
