Overview
Montgomery College accepts applications for Adjunct/Part-time Faculty on a continuous basis. Applications may be reviewed periodically based on student enrollment needs. The listing of a course in the schedule of classes as "TBA" does not constitute an assignment. The hiring decision for part-time faculty involves an academic judgment and shall be determined at Management's sole discretion. The Montgomery College, Adult ESOL & Basic Skills for College and Careers Program, is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member teaching in-person ServSafe Manager and ServSafe Food Handler certification classes in educational settings located within a maximum-security correctional facility and detention center. Responsibilities
Teach two (2) 3-hour ServSafe Food Handler courses monthly at Montgomery County Correctional Facility: (1) 8:00–11:00 and (2) 1:00–4:00 or 6:00–9:00. Teach two (2) 3-hour ServSafe Food Handler courses monthly at Montgomery County Detention Center: (1) 8:00–11:00 and (2) 1:00–4:00 or 6:00–9:00. Teach two (2) 3-hour ServSafe Manager courses over 5 days, bi-monthly minimum, at Montgomery County Correctional Facility: (1) 8:00–11:00 and (2) 1:00–4:00 or 6:00–9:00. Conduct testing through scantron; submit results and certification to ServSafe; maintain documentation of completion. Complete detailed daily reports including tracking attendance and course objectives completion. Abide by all College policies and procedures and by policies and procedures set by the Montgomery County Department of Corrections. Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Public Health, or an equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise. ServSafe Instructor Certification for Manager and Food Handler instruction. Minimum of 2 years teaching ServSafe Manager and ServSafe Food Handler classes. Registered ServSafe Proctor. Experience working with individuals from varied cultural, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds, preferably in a correctional setting. Proven experience delivering high-quality instruction to adult learners. Commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence; willingness to contribute to the College’s strategic plan of inclusion. Access to a personal computer with antivirus protection and internet connectivity outside of the work location; Montgomery College provides an MC email account and access to faculty resources. If you do not have access to a personal computer, notify the department chair at interview; temporary access to resources may be available subject to funds. Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor. Preferred Qualifications
Experience providing high-quality instruction in a correctional setting. Conditions of Employment
Successful completion of two background checks — one with the College and one with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Successful completion of a two-day orientation with the Maximum-Security Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of education equivalency conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service must be included in the application. Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA). Successful completion of a background check and degree verification (if applicable) at the time of hire.
